Child Developmental Topic Pacific Parenting Stages: Multiple

Pacific families come in all shapes and sizes and from different Pacific nations.  Many share common beliefs and values while others may have their own ethnic specific cultural practices.

Many Pacific peoples who migrated to Aotearoa came in search of employment and education. They sacrificed all that was familiar to come to a new and different land.  The language, people, the systems and even the weather was new.  What helped them cope was having support systems especially from other Pacific families already living here.

And it's not so different today for those 'new to parenting'.  Positive things happen when there is help and encouragement from more experienced others.  And when they understand and respect you and your family situation, and the relationships and structures within it, parenting is strengthened and children thrive.
