This programme has been developed for anyone who supports young parents by delivering a group parenting programme.
Here we provide you with 8 modules, each covering the topics prescribed by the Youth Service parenting guidelines. Within each module there are a number of workshops to choose from.
Which workshops you choose to present will depend on the size of your group, the ages of the participants’ children, and other factors such as literacy levels and the particular needs of the individuals you are working with.
The recommended resources are primarily the Well Child/Tamariki Ora My health book, Plunket’s Thriving under five book, the SKIP resources, the Parenting Resource website, the internet and other readily available resources.
Some workshops will need other commonly available resources, such as a whiteboard, pens and paper, toys or craft materials. When planning a workshop, read through the activities to make sure you have everything you need ahead of time.
Tailor your course to meet the needs of your group. For example, the course you run for 2 young people with pēpi under 3 months old will differ from one with either larger numbers of participants, or participants with older tamariki.
