- To understand that parents are a child’s first and most important playmate.
- To know that all children do most of their early learning simply through playing.
Ask the participants, ‘What does your baby like to do best of all?’
Depending on the size of the group, have participants tell their neighbour or take turns sharing in a small group.
Encourage them to talk in more detail about what their baby enjoys best about it:
- How did it start?
- What’s your part in the activity?
- How can you help?
- What might you do next?
- What is your baby learning by doing this?
In the SKIP Whakatipu booklet relevant to the child’s age, have the whānau look at ‘Pēpi says’.
Ask them, ‘Can you see your pēpi in what’s being said here?’
Discuss with the group.
